Five thousand years ago, the Camosun Bog began when a heavy and gigantic clump of ice created a depression in the land. First it was a lake, then a swamp, and finally a bog. A melting pot for life, history, and beauty was born. However this would change in the year 1929 as the city of Vancouver decided to put drains which seeps the water away from the sphagnum moss, an essential plant for a bog. Due to the expansion of the city, more land was needed. So the Camosun Bog was deemed as being useless. But for those such as Larry Grant, it was a traditional land vital to Musqeuam. By destroying the bog, it is essentially the same as destroying Musqeuam history. In a sense, the cultural identity of Musqeuam was being demolished. It is deeply important to the Musqeuam. whom have lived and flourished in the area, that the living history known as Camosun Bog be thriving.
